ADV Releasing Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R, Original Uncut Japanese Version with English Subtitles

Perhaps the biggest announcement of the Otakon 2002 ADV panel was the acquisition of the first two seasons of the international hit series, Sailor Moon, in the uncut form, featuring the Japanese language with English-subtitles. This is something Sailor Moon fans have been dreaming of for a very long time, and now it’s finally on the way. Each season will be packaged in their own spectacular box sets. And, we’re happy to report, production on the first season of episodes is already under way.

The REAL Scoop on Sailor Stars

Mr. Greenfield (AD Vision) explained that the reason the Sailormoon Sailorstars television season has not yet been licensed for American release is because Toei Animation of Japan is hesitant to allow American distribution of the series for fear that its potentially controversial subject matter may detriment American sales of Sailormoon videos and merchandise and adversely affect Sailormoon's "family friendly" status in America.

Sailor Moon back on Toonami

The Cartoon Network has officially announced that as of June 3rd, Sailormoon will again be broadcast on the channel at 3:30PM each weekday, leading directly into an expanded 3 hour long block of Toonami programming that will air from 4-7PM each weekday. What is somewhat surprising is that although Sailormoon will air directly adjacent to the official start of Toonami programming, it will not officially be a Toonami program while the children's anime series Hamtaro will be broadcast as part of the Toonami programing.

Sailor Stars Dubbed on Cartoon Network

The man behind Toonami, Sean Akins, has said in an interview that he sees no reason why they wouldn't air Stars. If the Cartoon Network is willing to air it, then there's no reason for CWI/Optimum not to dub it.

--Animation Gets Oscar Recognition--

The Motion Picture Academy has agreed to create a separate category for animated feature films, but the nominations would appear only when at least eight animated films are released during a year. The Academy has argued in the past that so few animated features are produced annually that all of them would receive a nomination if the category was instituted. Under the new rule, if 8-15 features are released in a year, three would be eligible for nominations. If 16 are released, five would be eligible.
