Sitey | Technical Information

I gotta say, I've received one too many emails regarding this. I don't mind sharing this information with my website visitors either, so I'm going to go ahead and layout all the technical information for those of you interested in building a website, or who have a website and would like to pick my brain. If something isn't included here, go ahead and email me so I can add it!

Take Care,

Bunny

I have the PrincessSerenity.net, SMFanFiction.net, TsukinoUsagi.com and all other non-sailormoon related domain names that I own registered here. They are the cheapest place I've found on the internet to register a domain and they're user access is really easy to use.

PrincessSerenity.net is hosted by Cheap Domain Registration.com, at least I think that's there name even if it sounds silly for a webhost. They are the company I use for my domain registration if you can believe it. They were the only place that offered hosting for a decent price for high bandwidth/high space websites like PS.net - so if you have a monster site like me and are looking for a good host - that's my recommendation. PS.net has been hosted on heaps and heaps of different servers over the years...it's been moved around a lot especially as it got bigger or as companies went out of buisness. Some I can name off the top of my head are EarthLink, the original host, Trekden's server, Aggressive Hosting, and Anime International. I will try my best to keep this up-to-date with the current hosting server though. My other websites are hosted by JiffyNet, they are a decent host with a lot of perks at a good price. LordK also hosts the back-up website of PS.net, so if and when there are technical problems with the main server, the site can stay online and operational.

ALL of the multimedia is hosted on PRIVATE in-home servers. Fidde's server is in Sweden and LordK's is in Chile. It is impossible to find a server that you can host media on that is not horrendously expensive. Fidde and LordK are very generous to offer for FREE the use of their private servers to host these files. If you want specs on their servers, you would need to contact them.

I write all of the code for the website in Microsoft Notepad. Yes, I WRITE the code out by hand. I know HTML, XHTML, Java, JavaScript, PHP, CSS and a bit of Perl. I did not write the eFiction script that hosts the fanfiction archives. You can find that at the eFiction website. I have however, modified it quite a bit and I also made the skin for the archives. I also did not write the script for the forums. That was provided by Invision Power Board and to my knowledge, they no longer offer free forums script. Once again, I made the skin. The news script on the main page was provided by CutePHP.com and the free for all links directory is an open source code I grabbed from My Threads. Everything else, I wrote myself.

I use WS_FTP and FlashFXP for my FTP programs that enable me to upload all of the files that make up my website.

I also created all of my graphics. I use Adobe Photoshop Pro Version 6.0 to create my graphics and I'm very happy with that program. Some of the banners have been made by BellaMuerte, Mitchy and my favorite little pink animated gif banner for PS.net was made by Chibi.

My computer is a custom tower that my husband built. We have a 21' flat LCD screen, a P4 processor that processes at 2.6 GHz (I believe) and we have an 80 GIG hard drive with a 60 GIG back-up external hard drive and a 100 GIG back-up external hard drive. (This is how I keep all the website content safely stored away.) Currently, I have a DSL internet connection provided by EarthLink, that's another thing that changes over time. I used to have Comcast cable, and who knows what will be next?
